New to M42s and have a small issue
« on: July 10, 2012, 12:14:54 PM »
Hey Guys,    I am fairly new to m42s but not e30s.  I have 3 cars now with M42s so I have to start learning.      The problem child is a 91 318is and the only thing bugging me is being hard to start cold or hot.

It always fires up but when cranking it sounds normal and as soon as it fires up you have to press the accelerator a little bit.  Once it rev above 1k or so it seem fine and will idle normally.  Runs and idles perfect any other time. Only time this issue pops up is when starting.   No matter cold or hot it will do the same thing.

It's making me crazy !    Any ideas ?.

Thanks.....

have you taken out the back seat to listen to the pump. if it's whiny maybe it's letting the pressure leak when the car is off,

if you turn the car off,(after it's been running normally) can you quickly start it right back up without the problem??

I'd test the TPS, clean the TB, maybe check the TB blade adjustment stop.  A sticky ICV can cause this too.

Mine used to do that, except I would have to rev it above 3k.  Do the stomp test.

My issue ended up being a bad afm
