Snapped wheel lug-nut. How to get out the piece stuck in there?

I found that the rear right wheel has a lug nut missing, and under closer inspection, it was snapped off in there, Theres a piece still there. Shops wont even look at it, dont want to touch that kind of job.
drilling out and rethreading is the only way?
Has this happened to anyone on here?

You may be able to take off the rotor/caliper and have another 1/4 to 1/2 inch of thread to work with, or you could always replace the drive flange! I think it would probably be easiest to drill it out though.

what I'd try is drill a hole thru it with a left handed drill bit.   this frequently spins the broken peice out,  but if it doesnt,   use the hole and try an easy-out.   before you do all this soak it in penetrant, the freeze off stuff is good, as is pb blaster.   if all this fails to shift it,  you can drill it out the rest of the way and re-tap it,  or replace the flange as previously noted.

What geoff said..... remove calliper and rotor at least then if you only have a rh bit you will see it come out the back. this material is hardened a bit the broken surface wont be true if you cant punch a centre mark for a drill then use a die grinder or dremel to grind a small dimple to get you centered use a heat gun and penetrating oil to help loosen the lug and you might still have good thread in hub also its important to keep your drill bit cool dip it in oil or machining coolant every so often. hope this helps
