pistons/rods
« on: November 13, 2006, 06:55:50 PM »
well im at another delima.

I called metric machanic and they said that it is not a good idea to run boost with the non interference valve pockets, even if its only 7lbs. im not even sure if i would end up geting a dasc, but id really like to keep the option open

they have one setup with 8.5 compression and one setup with 11.5 compression. It seems like neither would work for me.

I would like to have the compression at around 10 and deep valve pockets to make the engine non interfernce but it looks like that might not be possible.

maybe i should just order some rods and pistons from somewhere else? the problem with that is i dont know what the specs would need to be to give me what i want.

can anyone help me out here?

But you may want less compression then stock.  Depending upon what boost you want to run, you may even get a non-interference engine, better compression for your purpose (so you don't have to retard the timing so much), and stronger internals.

In general, I'd think this is less about BMW's and more about building engines.

I would buy the 11.5:1 setup from them.  If you want boost in the future, get a thicker headgasket to lower the CR.

yeah but according to them the non interference pistons will melt with boost. I dunno. I might just get some 10:1 JE:s and call it good. that way a dasc will be no problem.

i dunno...
