We all love the same motor and car, but this is a very small community. Only 5000 or so e30 M42's were built, and there are probably less on the road today which means we have small numbers of online people. Still we do have a lot to offer. As for your PSI and such I was beginning to research and I think 5psi would be just fine on the stock injectors/fuel pressure. I know DASC ran 7psi and they used a RRFP regulator that was the only mod to stock. I also think 4-5psi would be alright on the stock compression ratio. If I were to do a turbo build on the stock motor I would only work with about that much, then I would be looking at lower boost and such. I am still interested in your build, and look foward to seeing you post more pictures. Also who made your turbo manifold?

My Dad added 1 inch extensions for clearance away from the valve cover when he made my down pipe and rest of the stainless exhaust.

hey John

I also built my first turbo convertion at home but only it was on a m40 engine.it is done but im always fiddling on it :-).dont forget to make a turbo drain hole for the oil before you put the engine back or youll be sorry.
i bought a new t3/t4 turbo but ended up fitting a t28 so that i can spool up at lower revs.im currently running it on 0.8 bar boost with stock internals and it seems to be holding up fine.i fitted an extra 4 injectors at the bottom of the intake to feed the extra fuel once it starts boosting . its wired up to a perfect power management system that only manages the extra fuel with a map sensor to register boost. once everything is put together you will find that there are a lot of small things you will need to finish it off.

all of it will be worth it once you take it for the first drive and you hear the turbo spool up and then the BOV going wooosh. instant smile :-)
you guys have it so easy because my car is right hand drive and the turbo downpipe is a mission to get past the steeringcolumn. oh and dont forget to weld in a bung for your lamda sensor in your downpipe.

I'd be commenting if I had the smallest idea of how to do what you're doing.  Nice work there, I've been reading this post every day.

+1 on what 318kid said...there just aren't a lot of people active in this community.  The M4x is a sadly neglected motor.   IMHO if they'd have kept the e30 alive a few more years it'd have made a big difference.  The e36 has a far more refined feel than the lively e30, and with the lovely M5x I suppose it's hard to love the four-banger "economy car."

You're posting this on R3v too, aren't you?  That's a far more active  community - you're likely to get a lot more  response there, especially on turbos and suchlike.

Wow, thank you all for the helpful encouraging comments!!! I am kinda at a holding point due to the engine I bought fitment with oil pan, and the GT35 turbo possibly causing detonation... I have picked out a GT2860 with a built in waste gate set at approximately 10 psi.. I haven't purchased it yet, based on possible engine building instead(main objective to lower the compression ratio)...also taking care of bills. My E30 is sitting pretty waiting for me when the time is right. I want to move forward sooo bad, but I need to take my time and do it right. I may have two m42--> full engines up for grabs if there is anyone interested... one has 240k on it but still ran fine with minor leak from timing profile gasket, and other has 93k from a 1993 BMW. Thanks again y'all and keep me posted if parts sale or trading, or more helpful info is available.

So I had a great time with my gf's family today, enjoyed some great cookin' too! When me and her got back home, she got busy on her project toy box for a special niece and I decided to get on the oil pan swap issue to compare pick-up line location and all the needed.

They matched up perfect, which is good since both are m42b18 engine blocks... I went ahead with a huge smile and laugh at myself for almost selling this baby due to frustration.... got the pans swapped and will drop the 93k engine in soon.

I am getting my pennies together & gathering information to do something similar to what you are doing.
Have to wait till retirement though...maybe at the end of this year (old fart car guy here)

Hahaha! I am out by Texas Tech University--Lubbock. Money is always an issue for me... If I had more money, I would have went for a LS1 swap into this car... Thank you!

Ill sell it if someone's fair to me on price, still less than what I have expended.

Got the starter in, and most of the wire harness. Still have the alternator, A/C, radiator, exhaust, ignition coil, windshield washer fluid reservoir, and the fuel pump...
