Custom Exhaust Ideas?

The exhaust on my car was done very shady by the PO, it drags low in the back and is welded on at a wrong angle form the headers back.  To redo it from there, my muffler guy quoted me around $200.  
   Since I'll be under there I think I might remove the resonator, and most likely the cat as well but keep the stock (looks to be a legit oem replacement for a 318is) muffler.  Kind of looking forward to some sound, but I don't want it to be obnoxious at low speeds.  It should be okay, different at least for a while.

If I got a new muffler, what would you all reccommend on the cheap? I was thinking of using the existing muffler with new straight pipes (2.25" I think)from headers back, and possibly a custom tip.  I was thinking something less bling and more clean and Motorsport -like.  Post up pics of cool exhaust tips or different muffler options!

I kind of liked the look my stock exhaust versus the Supersprint. I think the tip is kind of overdone. I wish it were just a black single wall or non-oval.

dynomax isnt too loud.  when i am behind another car with exhaust like some rice rocket or a even an e36 m3 with ac schnitzer exhaust, i can BARELY hear mines.  and if you live in cali, dont cut off the cat, not juss for smog reasons but for pollution reasons too.. but lets juss say you decide to cut it off anyway, your stock/replaced muffler will sound shitty without a cat

Yeah.  I think im getting a new muffler, too.  Just can't decide..... I want something not too loud, or am I screwed on noise without a cat or resonator?

the resonator wont really make a difference, but without a cat can get pretty loud, depending one what brand of muffler you use.. summit racing has some cheap ones other than dynomax.. also, check ebay, they always have sales

Well I figured I could go with a cheap one for around 100, but I thinkI'm going to order the Remus I like for 300 shipped.  A buddy of mine, I just found out, knows a reputable exhaust guy and can weld well as a fabricator himself.  So for about 50 bucks more I can have a straight pipe setup, and down the road when I get money if I need smog or less noise, I can just throw a cat on easy.

I dunno if they make a bolt on application for e30 318's but check out the stromung exhaust here It's for an e36 318 but it sounds damn good.

Im just getting it done by a friend at a muffler shop... should I expect problems welding this to a set of straight pipes to the headers?

nope. no problems.  if they cant weld straight pipes, they shouldnt be welding at all.  post some pics and sound clips asap!!
