Hi as above whats the cheapest way to build a 2.0 m42?

Also would an m42 head fit onto a m44 bottom end and create an m42/m44 hybrid for an e30 ?

M47 crank & S52 pistons? Not sure there is a cheap way...

I'm pretty sure the M42 head fits on, but I haven't done it myself. Someone else will chime in, I'm sure. Quite a few active members have done this kind of work, maybe someone in Europe is sitting on a few cheap cranks?

if i was to bore an m44 block out to 86mm and fit these would that not create a 2.1

From the yards i've been to in Germany, not many, I haven't seen a single M47 car. Check my build thread, even bored over with the M44 crank it's still 1.9L and I'm running a M44 head gasket, head should swap over, make sure you get the right timing case, there were different versions. I'm betting the swap of M42 head onto M44 block will require the later style M42 timing case. You want the later style case either way because it has the lower guide rail instead of the idler gear. I have no idea if the M44 t-case is compatible with the M42 sensors/head/belt-drive/timing wheel. M44 has timing wheel on rear crank-throw balance weight, removing the timing wheel will require adding weight back to balance the crank. let me know what other questions you have
