fleabay chip and EWS module
« on: January 07, 2012, 06:02:20 PM »
ok....bought a chip from fleabay...suprise suprise, it didn't work! however, i saw a thread somewhere that mentioned something about disconnecting the EWS module and making it possible for these chips to work. so i did. clipped a wire, and boom. the chips works. Car had been running smooth ever since then.

the problem is (and i can't recall if this started when i cut the wire or not) my A/C and the right half of my instrument cluster no longer work. my mechanic has told me that its related to the ECU and that a wire has been "tampered" with (tbh i did not tell him it was me). so when i got home, resoldered the wire that i cut and replaced the fleabay chip with the original, but the engine won't turn over.

any thoughts as to y this may be? i am very confused

Cheers,

Jester

yeah..thats a weird one..did you dis-connect the battery when you removed the ecu to do this stuff?   I  have read that the ecu can fry if you dont, I guess that will cause a no start

I heard that the early EWS can be deactivated by splicing the two thick wires together.  That system was installed up to 95 IIRC.  I'll ask my Master Tech buddy next time I see him, he swears it works perfectly.

if i had fried the ECU i wouldn't be able to drive it at all. as soon as i disconnected the wire i cut, and put the chip i bought back in, the car started fine. which is what confuses me even more. how can the original chip not work anymore??
