holy crap-another gas leak
« on: December 31, 2011, 11:21:42 AM »
so I decide to put a new fuel filter in Saturday morning.   I  got new clamps and even bought the pre bent hose which goes on one side of the filter.  upon start up,  I have a huge under pressure leak which is coming right out of-the new pre bent and pretty pricey hose..right out of the end, even tho the clamp was pretty tight.  WTF??   I dont know about yours, but my car is not allowed to bitch about new parts..so I dig up a piece of good quality injection hose I had, the size is 5/16, and it has a teflon liner inside.  well,  this hose fits even better than stock.  it was tight to put on there, and I just made a loop of it to compensate for the sharp bend.  much more better-cause it dont leak:rolleyes:

Wonder how my fuel lines are holding up? I might go check as today is officially been labeled by the lovely mrs. as 'do whatever I want day!'

I had the same problem, but I'd used high-pressure line instead of the pricey molded piece.  I suspect it was due to road debris...but maybe it was defective line?  It's held up ever since.

the pricey pre bent hose was of decent quality, but it did not fit all that tightly to the metal line.  I think trying to seal it by putting the clamp real tight deformed the hose a little and allowed it to leak.   easing up on the clamp un-deformed the hose,  but it leaked even worse. The lined 5/16 hose(made by goodyear, btw)   fits real snug.  I think I'm going to this stuff for the fuel  lines near the oil filter too.  The bmw stuff is good quality,  but even good quality hose has trouble with the additives and alchohol and stuff in modern fuel.  The teflon liner RULES:D
