I just noticed a black e30 m42 318is just sold on ebay for $8900.00.
If you have one you should probably hang on to it.

I purchased mine for just under AU$5k, and the insurance company valued it at over $7k.

I thought that sounded familiar! I did catch that story. Here's Jalopnik's blog on the car (and Bill Caswell, the owner/driver), it's an awesome story...my favorite part (shown in this video, at about the 3:00 mark):

Yea, that car on ebay was in really nice shape!
