I'm new to the club.

Bought a 1991 318is a couple weeks ago. It's brilliantrot/black vinyl, 150k miles. Bilsteins and aftermarket springs, but otherwise virtually bone stock, including stereo.

Oh yeah, best part, it's a slicktop!

I've been taking care of some small issues -- fluid flushes, new motor mounts and tranny mounts, new hose clamps at the power steering reservoir, and various other odds and ends.

Next up, front-of-the-engine oil leak!

Anyway, I'll probably just lurk and learn mainly. I'm very glad to have access to these resources.

Welcome to the club, I hope you find lots of great info here.

That oil leak is likely the cam sensor or the filter housing o-ring. Neither are expensive. Be aware that the M42 just likes to ooze, so finding leaks is a drawn out process. I think of it as German rust-proofing.

Well, turns out the cam sensor was incorrectly installed. The wiring bracket that attaches with it was tucked UNDER the sensor, preventing it from sealing up to the head properly.

Cleaned up all the bits and stuffed it back together the proper way. Viola!

While we were at it, we flushed tranny, diff, power steering and brake fluids. This car is humming right along.

I'm expecting a stock airbox in the mail next week, then I'll ditch the idiotic K&N cone that somebody bolted on. Yech.

Congratz my friend! I'm also loving my new 318is brilliantrot with black vinyl haha. Our cars oughta meet up and have a beer or coffee sometime.

I need to look into my small oil leak as well and the few others odds and ends!

What part of the world are you at?

Make sure you check the timing components!! I wish I had changed my tensioner in time...
