Insurance value of a nice 1991 E30 318is
« on: November 06, 2011, 07:52:22 AM »
I've got the usual tale of woe, we have all seen hundreds, they all hurt.  My 91 318is what hit from behind by a cell phone yakking teenager.  I doubt he hit the brakes.  Pushed me into the car in front.  Probably the only body salvageable is 2 doors and the LF fender.   The car was in great shape, the body was about at least 9/10.  Interior was less so as the original cloth upholstery was disintegrating and the dash had several crack.  Mechanically the engine and suspension was 100% since the car spent much of its recent life doing driving events.

The headache begins.  I’m looking for documented cases of good to great condition E30 318is’s trading hands to help substantiate and insurance settlement.  I’m not sure we need to waste the bandwidth so PM will do.

As the original owner of EE73042, RIP.  You served me well for 240000 miles.

Thanks
Warren

"cell phone yakking teenager." Kids don't yak anymore, they txt.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Good luck with insurance. :(

Sorry to hear of that.  Everyone OK?  Post some pics...maybe consider an engine swap into an old 325e?

What did the insurance company offer?  The only recent posts I've seen that sold were:
318is1506's sale @$1650;
a $1k EBay special with a blown engine
and a repeat sale (here @$6300 and here @$6600) from a no-feedback seller blatantly shilling.

Looks like one legitimate 318is selling currently, but it has very low mileage.  Six days left, 72k, $4050 currently.

If the insurance company refuses to settle, litigate.

I got about 2500 for mine. We tried the same thing by finding ads for decent e30's. They told us what people ask, and what people pay are two different things.

Here's a suggestion: Search the completed listings on Ebay and see what the cars actually sold for. Currently there are two completed listings and three ongoing auctions with very active bidding.

Just bought mine for 3800$ 217k Miles so pretty close there, body in good condition, only minor dings, mechanically sound, dash has a few little cracks, seats are all perfect except for driver side has a little tear/crack but they are swapped in black vinyl sport seats.

What kind of information/confirmation would the insurance company need for verification?
