Block heater or oil heater for M42?
« on: November 02, 2011, 09:08:53 PM »
Does anyone have a good, proven solution for overnight oil or coolant engine heating in extreme cold climates?  I just found out I will be working in Northern Montana for the winter.  I will have access to 110v electrical outlets in the parking at my hotel.

I would look at a Zerostart coolant circulating heater. Warms up the whole block.

I've been looking into getting one of those heaters you just stick to the bottom of the oil pan to warm up the oil somewhat. :/
Figured I'd set it on a timer an hour or so before I have to leave for work..

I have the factory (BMWNA) heater in mine, takes the place of the core plug on the side of the block.

I am from Northern Montana and now live in Maryland. Have never plugged it in :-)
