the cost of the mess removal service..
« on: October 28, 2011, 07:14:52 PM »
Well, I wanted to delete the mess under the intake, and generally tend to all belts & hoses.  I bought a new heater manifold, manifold gaskets, rad and heater hoses, injector seals, all fuel lines, and all emmissions and vacuum lines, for about $160 bucks total.  When you consider that that is all of them, the price is not really all that much.  I do still need anti-freeze, and maybe the odd  hose clamp or 2, but still,  under 200 to do everything...but the peace of mind, priceless:)

Amen!

I spent a bit more for a silicone kit.  Does it make a difference?  Not really.  Worth the extra money?  Absolutely!

I definitely waffled a bit, as the red silicone hoses probably would look pretty spiffy..I decided on stock hoses for the tricky bends, and a more stock look.
When I got my car inspected, the guy was poking around under my hood, I can only assume he was looking for non-stock looking  bodgery under there..I think the black hoses will look closer to original, with only perhaps "one of us" able to tell the difference.  Plus, as you note, it was cheaper...:o

Yep...though hiperformance store stocks black silicone as well...

Happily, we don't have the Gestapo doing our emissions checks yet next door in PA.

here in Jersey, they went from all state run facilities, to having licensed inspectors charging a fee to do it, as well as state run facilities.  They will soon close all state run facilities and go for all private sector testing,  which in my experience is both good and bad.  We will now pay 75 or 80 bucks for a 2 year inspection.  Ah well..for an extra 20 bucks you can probably get one of those  supercharged  couches with an end table on it inspected:D
