First, are the E36 rad hoses the same as the E30? And second, do you really need the two 'special tools' to replace the fan clutch? The two tools are more expensive than the new clutch.

bflan: You don't necessarily need the two fan clutch tools but it makes the job easier.

I use a large adjustable wrench. It's a tight fit but it works. Remember that it's reverse-threaded...righty loosey... Be sure you get a clamp or something on the pulley to keep it from spinning while you twist the nut. A bit of PB Blaster will help.

Not sure about the hoses, sorry. I'd assume they're very similar though.

a friend of mine just loaned me a large crescent wrench that he ground down to just a few mm's for a different job..sounds like that will work perfectly.

i don't understand why i need to hold the pulley though. don't you use the crescent wrench to hold the crank while you spin the nut with a socket?

edit: nevermind, i just read the manual and i see what the pulley holder thing is now
