Anyone have a picture of the wiring on the back of the Alt?
« on: September 05, 2011, 08:22:04 AM »
I'm reinstalling the engine today and I found that the wiring on the back of the Alternator has taken a bit of abuse.  I have a short blue wire that is approximately the same length as the heavy gauge Battery wire that goes to the large post on the rear.  Do they go to the same spot?  Does the very long blue wire (The one with the red line on it in the second picture) coming off the back of the Alt go into the harness somewhere?  It looks like it might have been fished through the harness to somewhere inside of the large rectangular electrical junction, but I can't see where it might have broken off from.  Anyone have some simplified pictures or instructions for these?

Hate to go round robin on ya all, but I am getting some answers on BF.c.  Here is the link. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=22662362#post22662362  If anyone happens to have a pic of their connection box open so I can see the wires, that would be really helpful.  :)   I guess I may have to go find a 318 in the PNP and see how its wired.

Wish I could help out...the last time I tried to take mine off I broke that connector shroud.  It's stuck together with RTV and I'm not tempting fate again.

I noted that the '91 manual is missing some pages as well.  I tend to use the '92 manual but I'm not sure if it's totally correct.

There is only one wire attached to the small post.  I would eliminate the second blue wire.

I am trending towards that a the wiring diagram doesnt show it, and there is no obvious connector for it to go in the box.  I guess if it doesn't charge, then I know where to start.

Just a follow up.

As per recommendations and diagrams, I eliminated that second blue wire.  I am not sure why or how it got there, but it obviously wasn't needed as I am not getting any charging issues and the Alt is putting out 13.9 vlts under a load.
