Compression testing
« on: August 22, 2011, 02:53:48 PM »
so i bought an almost new head, shaved and 5* valve job. he threw in cam gears, trays, lifters and such. pretty much everything except the cams. i'm just eager to get it in the mail via ups until i remembered, shit, i haven't even done a compression test on my engine yet. right now it still has the cracked head on so my questions are:

  • is it going to affect compression values with a cracked head? (it's cracked somewhere around spark plug socket 2, fizzes out coolant)
  • how can i diagnose the health of my block?
  • is it possible to do a compression test without a head installed? (just wondering)

some stuff..
the oil does not have coolant and vice versa, no coolant in oil.
never popped a head gasket but i replaced the old one anyway thinking that was the reason for the overheating (i already replaced thermostat and pump and bled the m42 for a week only to find out that coolant was leaking from the sp socket!!)
