-OR- Trade for single row timing chain made to the proper length +. This is the strongest chain you can buy for the conversion.

Why would you want a small case 3.64 open diff?!?


I have one that a standard 316i made bits of :p

Get a large case as it won't break and are far more plentiful off 325i

Dave,

I do have a 3.73 lsd medium case out of a e30 325is. Will that bolt in w/o any other changes to the side shafts etc.?

I wanted the lower ratio for my son's e30 318is. He is attending a University in Daytona, Florida and we will be driving from upstate NY. We have lower profile tires that were used on the track which increases the revs. We would like to get the revs back down a bit.

He ran the car on Watkins Glen for a track school w/the orig 165K mile, small case diff & Redline oil for about 4 hours as hard as possible w/ no problems. It is turbocharged @ 5 psi, but we have removed weight as well. Perhaps the Redline shockproof and less weight has preserved it.

Yeah, the medium case is a straight swap. All you need to do is shorten the prop-shaft by loosening it by the center bearing by unscrewing the collar on the splines.

Once the diff is in then, tighten up the collar again.


Funnily enough track work doesn't seem to be that hard on diffs.

We've ran an E36 M3 (euro 3L) Compact drift car for two seasons on a small case diff (4.27) and only broke one.

I've broken or have taken out destroyed loads of small cases diffs on road cars though and even one was just in a 316i last week! :eek:


3.73 LSD will be perfect for a turbo M42 by the way :cool:

I'm using a 3.91 in mine but mine is only going to be a 2.1 on ITBs and have a 6 speed box from an E46 M3 anyway :D
