ITBs or Supercharge?
« on: August 02, 2011, 07:43:47 PM »
So mid-way through my engine build-up, I found that I had a set of throttle bodies from an old M20 project, that are an exact match to the intake runners (last half), of the m42.  Here are my options - interested in hearing feedback from those who have done one or the other:

1 - my supercharger build was based on a complete mongrel engine - part M44 (crank), part M54 (pistons), with a mini cooper supercharger.  Compression would have been between 9.0-9.6:1.  Engine management would be Megasquirt based.  Engine room is not an issue, because its not going into an E30.

2 - my ITBs are an exact match - bolt holes to intake runner diameter (last half).  I'd run these without a plenum - through trumpets.   Question I have is - what would be the ideal internals?  I have access to the M54 pistons, which have low compression, M44, or M42, and the M42 and M44 crank.  Interested in what combinations for the ITB setup makes the most sense.  If I could get high compression 10.5:1 plus, with the extra stroke it would be preferred.  Anyone know a good piston to use from stock BMW components?

I've read through a lot of different posts, but none seem to compare these types of options.  Also, since this is going into a 1200lb car, a little less power is needed throughout the power-band (but hey, who cares!)

Thanks for input.
