Idle issue
«

I just got an m42 running in my e21. The idle varies from what sounds normal to what sounds about like around 2k. I'm not sure because i don't have a tac hooked up yet. Also, it felt very very gutless... There is not an O2 sensor hooked up yet, but i'm guessing that would not be the only thing causing the issue. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Is the idle stable or does it surge? If it's surging, I'd expect it's a vac leak or a bad sensor. If it's high once the engine warms up, I'd guess one of the temp sensors is the culprit.

It is stable high for a little bit and then stable low and then soon back to high, doesn't seem like it's surging. I probably haven't gotten the engine up to operating temp since the longest it's been on is about 3-5 mins because it's so loud, but i'll be getting exhaust put on it tomorrow hopefully
It seemed to like to stay high as the engine warmed up though.
