I recently replace my clutch system with an OEM Sachs Clutch Kit (inc. TO bearing, clutch disc, and pressure plate). After getting all the work done at home, I forgot to bleed the clutch slave cylinder which killed me down the line.  Now I'm payin for it.. My clutch runs normally but under high stress like 90-100mph or hard launches and fast shifts, my clutch begins to slip.  I've heard of places in the Bay Area that can rebuild the clutch disc with a more performance friction material but I'm not sure how well that'll hold up.  Are there any 'sport' replacements for our non-torsional springed clutches? Lookin for somethin between OEM and Race.  Thanks.

you should do the single mass conversion, then you can use 325 clutches

I was thinkin actually thinkin bout that, but how much would the whole setup cost?  I just got my new clutch kit so I know its got a bunch of miles left on it.  If I upped to the 325 setup, not only would I get a lighter flywheel, but I know I can easily find some good clutches.  Some price ranges would be helpful.  Thanks.

I don't see the connection here. If your unit is stock and you forgetting to bleed the slave caused premature wear - simply replace the disc alone.

On the other hand - If you wish to do the m20b25 flywheel mod and needed an excuse; now is the time :D

I dont really feel like spending on a clutch disc that i know is incapable of handling my driving habits.. that, and m42 clutches are more expensive than any other ones because of the dual mass flywheel (so i was told by a napa dealer). I also always wanted a lighter flywheel after finding out that our flywheels way nearly double that of a 325.

I think any clutch disc that is not capable of "your habits" on a stock car indicates you  being the culprit of not driving it well. Our clutch's hold just fine when used right. I have had a few e30s in different formats and the stock clutch never let me down until the moment I decided to get creative with a lightweight flywheel brew then everything went south :rolleyes:

Well like i stated before, i ran it for awhile without bleedin the slave and that sorta messed things up.. so youre sayin the stock clutch (when everything is runnin smooth) can withstand a good beatin? for example, i know a lot of folks here use 318is for auto-x, do any of you swap out your clutches or do you juss stick with tha stocker? I've read BrandC's post about his first time on thunderhill with his mostly stock 318is.. anyone else?

I have driven my car very hard for almost 2 years.  The clutch is still in tip top shape.  I also have a bit more power than stock (MarkD chip + cams).

i say get a stock disc if your plans arent too extreme.

My car has been through 2 HPDE 2 day weekends at Road Atlanta and a half track day @ little taladega. I have also attended 8 or so auto-x events this season. I have daily driven this car a lot in between these events and I have drive through very heavy, slow-crawl traffic.

I have never done a clutch job without bleeding the slave cylinder though. I didn't think you could even get it to fit

You just shoved the slave cyl. back in and bolted it? Make sure that is the case indeed when you have the car apart. Don't want something else like a misaligned component to be missed when you have the car apart.

Where can I read about this coinversion?
E30 318is M42

everything runs fine now.  what had happened was i bolted everything back and went for a test drive and it was fine. after continuously driving the car (its my dd) i noticed that i had to push tha pedal down more and more. without realizin it before it was too late, tons of air had gotten in there and caused me to basically drive tha car without bein able to disengage the clutch entirely.  this lead to premature wear of the clutch disc.  as i have stated before, there are no other problems and havent been for about a month already (ive only had this car since july and really started driven it in august).

the clutch works perfectly under 'normal' driving conditions, but once i start doggin it, ie. repeated hard launches or constant high speeds around 100, it really starts slippin.. BAD..
