Silicone hose kit, e30 M42

I thought about moving the ICV out as well, but I couldn't find anywhere adequate to mount it.  I'm not sure it'd fit directly into the boot, but if it did that would be ideal.  Even better, one of the Bosch right-angle ICV's would make that an ideal solution.

I'll post pics if I go that route.

I'm also not 100% happy about the intake boot stretching out.  I'd love to have replaced that with a chunk or two of silicone as well.  I prefer the quiet stock intake box and paper filter, I'd prefer to avoid a cone.

Dave,

Which hose did you use for that?  Do you remember the letter?  I purchased the same kit in black and just started to tackle this ...

Can I give you ring live to discuss?

Kevin

M->F->A hose size
« Reply #18 on: July 06, 2011, 02:35:48 PM »
Dave,

So on the coolant elbow nipple M fit easily, F took a bit of work, and A wouldn't fit easily at all.  If you used F, did you use a hose clamp at the head nipple? F seemed to be way loose and A fit the best as M was too large.

Good talking to you today!  I'll try to put together a "how to" ...

A fits ... with some work
« Reply #20 on: July 08, 2011, 10:03:01 PM »
Dave,

I got A to fit nicely over the coolant elbow nipple and secured it with a hose clamp.   I did the same with the block nipple.  I used approx. 8" of hose ...

That was step one ...

Hey Dave, maybe you can help. I would like to get some of the hose by the foot to replace my OEM one that is going from valve cover to under the throttle housing. Right now I am using the stock hose, which is 3 pieces. I have to meausre the ID for both ends to make sure I dont need a reducer coupler or even a 90 degree which this company sells. I would like to keep the stock path. From your pics I see you ran it not under the intake but what did you do to connect it to under the throttle housing? Once I get this side going I will work on the ICV hose. I am using both OEM hoses but then using an m30 vacuum pre-molded hose to make it look clean, just needed a clamp when it connects to under the intake elbow due to size mismatch.

I ran the VC cover to the spigot on the TB, right under the boot.  It's the original BMW routing (minus the preheater, of course), goes behind the throttle butterflies.  I'm assuming it's that way to help with some pumping losses.   I'd like to keep the throttle plates clean...but it'll definitely be at the expense of the intake runners on this car, eh?

Did you use the same hose all the way or did you use a coupler  or reducer to connect it to the throttle housing. I recall the throttle spigot is more narrow that the VC spigot.

Same hose.  It fit tightly on the cover but isn't all that tight on the TB.

I was looking around and noted a few M42s that had it heading into the intake boot as well.  I'm wondering if it requires full vacuum all the time.

Thanks. Do you remember the size of that hose?

I am afraind if you move that hose to the boot, you will suck more oil so make sure you have a catch can filter.

I think that hose was the third smaller size.  Can't recall the letter.  I followed the directions as to the letters, they all fit.  The only exception I made was to connect the coolant manifold directly to the head with silicone.

I was planning on installing an air compressor catch can; they're cheap and seem to work well.  I'll avoid the usual teflon tape and use sensor safe RTV silicon sealant instead.

I will take some measurements to figure what size I need and post it up. The kit is nice, but don't really need all new hoses. Will just go by the foot and figure if I need any 90 degree bends or reducers.

Thanks for all the help. Always wanted to go silicone but never really looked from who.
