HELP! Overheated on the side of the road!
« on: May 27, 2011, 11:24:27 AM »
I'm stuck on the side of the road! Please call me at xxxxxxxxxx  if you can help in diagnosing the problem.
I finished the installation of an M42 in my 1600, including a new E30 radiator. I bled the radiator as per the instructions here. The car will stay at a normal temperature for 10 or 15 minutes before climbing up into the red. Any ideas?

Please call me if you can help.

SOLVED

Thanks to desktopdave, some 2002 guys and Steve from Blunttech.com. I now have a new thermostat and water pump on the way.

Sucks. Which gauge you using for the 1600? Looks like you sorted it out. The m42's can be a pain to bleed. I can't remember, did you use the stock fan clutch?

Glad to help.  I hope the pump solves the problem.  While I had it apart I'd likely do a quick compression check too.  A leak will cause overheating regardless of other failing parts.  Our M42 is infamous for a weak cooling system.
