I must be the only one this is happening to!

So my story is a typical one, A/C doesn't blow cold, the car was driven during winters, so the front componnents are all rusted solid, and I'm an enthusiast.  We all know what that means, I'm taking the whole thing out!

So I had a 95 318is 4 years ago and ended up taking it out of that car (for no good reason, that one did work).  When I removed the compressor off of the 95, I also removed the compressor bracket that attaches it to the motor.  Well, I guess the motor used that as some sort of seal, because I developed a small oil leak after removing it.  I ended up putting it back on for that car and the leak stopped.

Fast forward to today when I removed the same parts from this 91.  Compressor, reciever/dryer, condenser, and lines.  Well, the compressor bracket on our 91's is much heavier than the one in my 95, so I left it off.  I screwed in the front 2 bolts with extra washers to simulate the bracket being there.  Well that did nothing, as I drove the car like normal for 20 min and let the car sit for 2 hours.  When I came out to check out the work I had done, I checked underneath the car, and sure enough, that damn leak sprung on this M42 as well.  Grrrr!

So my question is for those of you that also have no A/C.  Did you leave the compresor bracket on? or did you take it off, and if so, does/did your car leak?  if so, was there a fix?  thanks in advance guys.

In FL you must have A/C.  From the posts I have read here there are a number of people who do not have A/C so I am sure they can help.

Use a copper crush washer on the bolt.

I took mine off and put it back on because I didn't want to leave those bolts out or have them sticking out. I've had a small leak since then too. Can those two bolts be replaced with bolts for cars that didn't have AC?
