Anyone know all the drain hole locations?
« on: October 03, 2006, 12:33:59 PM »
We've had very bad downpours the last 2 days and noticed some water in my driver's rear trunk area.  Anyone know all the drain hole locations?

In the trunk?  What about the antenna "grommet?"

Well, I did some digging and looking with a flashlight.

There are two drain tubes behind each kickpanel where the front speakers are. But the suprising thing I found was the tubes were slash cut and not directly plumbed directly to the outer drain holes. It's a weird design I must say. You'll want to check for two slits in the very front part of your rocker panel and make sure they aren't clogged.

My central lock relay had shorted out from filling with water. If your central lock isn't in the factory location with the factory metal bracket, I would suggest not having it located at the very bottom as it can get wet in very heavy down pour situations. I had taken it off and moved it earlier so that I can fit my crossovers in the same spot.

Also, check to make sure your door grommet covers(rubber square pieces) in your door jambs are nice and tight. This is where I suspected a lot of my water found in the kick panels to have come from.

There are also two drain tubes located at the rear behind your trunk panels. These lead into the rear sidemarker assemblies which exit towards the bottom of the car. Pull them out and make sure they aren't clogged. Also make sure they are secured all the way in. I found one of mine loose hanging partially out.

Those were some crazy storms we had the other night.  I'm in Chicago too.

For that area - don't forget the trunk seal as well as tail light gaskets in addition to the antenna grommet. Another test is to run a garden hose along the edge of the trunk while it is closed for a while - open the trunk and trace source of water. It's sometimes easily seen, for other cases - park you car on level ground and then sloping ground to replicate the prior environment that caused the leak.

FWIW There are 5 drains on each side of the car that drain water from the sunroof.

I did check the taillight gaskets and I don't have an antenna. ;)

Do you know the other drain locations?
