Windsheild Wiper Speed?
« on: April 27, 2011, 12:15:58 PM »
vehicle is a 93 E36 318i sedan.
The windshield Wipers have an Intermittent/Slow and Fast speeds.
The Intermittent and Slow speeds are as expected. The Fast Speed is not much faster then the Slow Speed but you can see a difference.
The Wiper Arms and Blades were replaced to OEM specs.
Is this Slower then expected Fast Wiper motor speed a Characteristic of this model car?
If you ask what I am comparing it to ...Everything, this is the slowest Fast Wiper Speed I have ever Experienced..
....If caught in a Down pour I would probably have to pull over to the side of the road.

Bump..
I see this little problem of mine getting a number of looks but no comments.
I am imagining in my mind a lot of E36 owners sitting in their cars with Stop Watches timing the Differences between the Slow and Fast speeds. Then going back into the house and with the recorded data working an equation of Inverse Ratios regarding the wiper speeds...........................................
 NOT!!...  :D

Yep! I am particular with small details.
It is a bit slow guys....  :)    Maybe the wiper motor is beginning to give up the ghost. Probably the best I can do is to approach some poor bewildered E36 owner and ask for a Fast Speed Wiper Demo..
With a nervous look on his face He will probably quickly put up his window and speed away.. :D

Thanks for the Replies.

I guess to this point no one is disagreeing with the idea that the FAST speed  should be at 1.5 to 2 travels per second. 2nd I agree that the motor may well be on the way out.
so temporarily it will at least take the advice to Grease the linkage which should lessen the stress on this dying Wiper Motor. Hopefully, the grease will help put off the failure.

Mine is very fast on the high speed, so fast it has to be a major deluge to make it useful.

Thanks for that comparison.
Yeah, that has always been my experience also from Make to Make of autos.
Which is why I suspect a problem here. I have already begun my search for a replacement but won't act until the situation worsens.
