Ever thought about it?
« on: April 14, 2011, 11:15:31 AM »
Has anybody here thought about building a brakelight Kill switch? Like when you see a car that you think is a cop on the other side of the road, you can brake without lighting up the entire back side red? Has anybody actualy built one, and if so do you use it, or show off to your friends?

No think about it, a cop pulls behind you and tail gates you........ , no its when I am on the back roads, and I pass a car I think is a cop, I can turn off my brake lights, and get the car slowed down without lighting the trees behind me turning red.

Just splice an always-on momentary press button switch into the brake light switch; piece of cake.  I'd suggest installing it in the plastic strip under the dash bezel, next to the fog light switch.

Having said that, I'd think twice about it...or maybe thrice!

I did this mod myself, accidentally.  The brake light switch fell apart & I was just driving around without any kind of brake lights at all.  If the cruise control hadn't been broken I'd probably still have my "brake light mod."

As for impressing friends (chicks?), my wife would be SO unimpressed.  Come to think of it, chicks do not dig e30s.  That's a plus in my book.

Really? Chicks don't dig them? Maybe thats because its rare to find one in decent shape. Every girl I meet likes mine :P

I set my switch up so that no one knows there was ever a switch if I pull it out. I did not want to cut wires or splice anything for that reason.

Is it forbidden to brake when you see cops? :)

Bah...I'm sure it's you that the girls like...the car is just an accessory.  Not to stereotype here ;), but my limited experience with the mysteries of the female mind leads me to the following conclusions:
1. If you're obsessive and careful with your car, you're likely to be protective and tender with her.  Chicks dig that.
2. You'll always be there if she needs a ride.  Chicks dig that too.
3. The e30 is a cute car, no doubt about it.  The best kind of chick digs that too.  It's definitely not a living room on wheels like most of the gargantuan soccer mom "Sport-utility" station wagon truck-ettes cruising 'round out there.  It's almost like 1974 all over again...just without the wood-grain shelf paper pasted on their sides.

Take all that with a grain of salt...I'm old enough that I could have bought one of these cars new, back in the day.  Not that I would have, the rich preppies that drove them were way out of my impoverished college league!  Now that I can finally afford one...the chicks in my league are way too old to be impressed by a car!
