What is this and do I need it?
« on: April 14, 2011, 08:06:25 AM »
I'm swapping an M42 into a 1600 and I'm not sure what this is. I have a good check valve on the line to the booster in the car.

So, what is this thing and should I add it to the line from the intake to the booster?

*I stole this picture from a Google image search. I'm talking about the device in the red circle, not at what the finger is pointing.

That is the e30 check valve for the brake booster.  Just different than the 02 one.  If your 1600 booster has the valve in the fitting on the booster (like my 70 02) just run the line direct to the intake.

+1 on that.  Check valve.  Not to threadjack, but how well do you think an M42 would fit in a 2000CS?  I know it's an ugly car, but there's something so appealing about it.  Maybe cheap has something to do with it?  AND I can't afford an e9 3.0CSi nor a 700.

Fits fine.....  I swapped one last june.  This one had an automatic but a 5 speed would fit without a hitch

That is so un-frickin-believably-sweet!

f you don't mind me asking, what's the range of prices you've seen for decent 2000CS coupes?  How's the spare parts situation?

Here are some more pictures of the swap....
http://theguestroom.net/67_2000/

This isn't my car actually so I am not to up on the NK coupes all that much it is just a swap I did.  But some of the parts are shared with the 02s and e12/e21 I think. Or things can be swapped/upgraded from the later cars.  But some parts on the NKs are just not available....

Them's fightin' words. :D

I always thought that the 2000CS was a nice looking variant of the E9 chassis. I suppose that it makes me a bit biased, but I also like that it used a lightweight M10 to begin with.

Anyway, to each his own, but I'd love to have one.

cool looking. Almost like a fancier version of a Corvair.
