I keep breaking Advance Auto halfshafts
« on: March 29, 2011, 12:05:12 AM »
Long story short, Ive broken 5 in the past year with a stock 318i, its not like its an M3 with mods or anything. It has been the driver side one every time.

The first 2 were due to me being rough with the burnouts when I was trashing my old tires. Then the 3 after that were from normal driving. One broke under a downshift which was just to aid in braking, not a nasty shift or anything, and the other times were just accelerating normally. Trust me, I dont beat on the car at all due to the fact Im afraid its gonna break.

I keep getting them for free, but Im stranded everytime it breaks. My rear wheel bearings are new, and everything is installed right, not much you can screw up. Im gonna have to break down and buy an OEM one, or at least try a NAPA shaft maybe.

Anyone else ever had problems with GS-P Advance Autopart shafts?

maybe your diff is sending power to only that shaft? but if it snaped when you downshift...  where is the snap?

I was wondering about my diff, but before of being afraid of breaking the shaft I could burnout and both tires would lay rubber. The snap is usually at the CV by the rim, but this last time it was closest to the diff. Im gonna get a Bavarian used BMW one and Advance has agreed to give me my money back.
