Performance reground cams
« on: March 22, 2011, 01:20:08 PM »
I bought a set of cams planning to have them sent out and reground and called a few places asking for available profiles and all that. I found that some of the info floating around is out of date, so I thought I would update.

Delta Cams: I talked to them a year and a half or so ago and they had a few grinds available for very reasonable prices. When I talked to them today they said that they have been having problems with welding the BMW 6 and 4 cyl cams that use the buckets and they were unwilling to take on a performance grind at this time.

Web Cams I also called Web Cams to see what grinds they have available. They said they have tons of grinds available, but the cost was $801. At that price I would rather just get some billet cams.

Dougherty Racing Cams I have not talked to them yet, maybe I will call them tomorrow at lunch to see what they have available.

If anyone knows any other places to get cams reground with performance profiles, please let me know. Also, if you have aftermarket cams in your engine, maybe post up what you've got and how you like them.

Metric Mechanic sells M42 cams and seems pretty knowledgeable.

Very true. MM has some nice grinds. Supposedly they are done by Web Cams.

I will see what Doughetry has to offer and the price.

It\'s 106 miles to Chicago. We\'ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it\'s dark, and we\'re wearing sunglasses. - Hit it.

As far as I can understand CatCams was one of the major players when M/S42's were used a lot on road racing.

I picked up some catcams from VAC for around the same price as the web cams cams: if it was new or regrinds, there'd be no question. There are a good number of options with Catcams with both solid and hydraulic lifters. VAC also have regrinds (Link).

Be mindful that the cam carriers will not allow too much of a reduction in the base circle diameter. Check out Boyracer's thread (Link).
