M42 Head Bolt Choice
« on: March 02, 2011, 08:12:18 PM »
Hi All,

Can someone tell me the specs of the oem bmw head bolts. Length and tread most importantly.

Im trying to find somthing to produce better clampping forces than standard but avoid paying $175 plus postage to aus for ARP bolts. I have just orderd a msl head gasket for my turbo build.

I have the specs of the metric blue from mcmaster.com (91303A306) but not sure if this is for m20 style engines or m42. Maybe compatible with both, im not sure...

What have other people used in the past.

Thanks

Jamie

Can't help you except to say that the metric blue bolts (of which I own a set) were briefly the hot ticket in about 2006 for turbo M20's. Soon fell from favor, and I believe most M20 builds are now using the ARP or raceware studs. So scratch the metric blues from your list and press on. Good luck with your build!
Looking for rust-free mechanically and cosmetically brilliant 318is slicktop (non-sunroof) with alloy-block M52 swap and camber-corrected rear subframe. Must have working non-leaking A/C. PM me.
