Will a non-airbag steering column fit?

I buggered the splines in mine and can't get them to line up and work properly no matter how much I dremel or file. I got a free one from another 4 cyl car, but it is a non-airbag one.
Will it fit?
thanks,

I've heard that the e36 rack fits with no change to the later airbag column but requires shortening the energy absorber linkage on that front flex extension for the non-airbag column. Ergo, I'd guess that the non-airbag extension is longer but the column itself is the same.
Anyone know for sure?
