E36 Headunit
« on: September 26, 2006, 01:39:36 PM »
I have seen where some people have the E36 Business CD as the replacement headunit.  Is there anyone on the board who has that set up?  Ideally I am looking to change out my stock headunit with the touch senstive controls for one that has a CD and will take an Ipod.

Also, rear deck speakers, will these fit and what are your opinions?

Factory speakers are 5-1/4" all the way around - anything will fit, it's just a question of how much sheetmetal cutting you want to do!

My best advice is to go to Crutchfield and look there - they will tell you that those speakers don't fit, but they are looking at stock (no cutting) applications. They are cheaper at Crutchfield, as well, and Crutchfield shows that there is a 6012si that is a little shallower. Check the reviews for this speaker at Crutchfield.

I went with Boston Acoustics in the rear and Infinity Kappa 50.7cs in the front. Sounds fine.

Those infinitys also come in the 5 1/4.  Crutchfield it is.  What headunit are you using?

I have a JVC KD-AR5500 - no ipod lover here, but I like having my MP3s. This one plays off of SD cards, as well as controlling the CD changer in the trunk and the Sirius radio.

AND I can load pics of my car in, although it is not a full color display. That came out the next year, and is FAR more entertainment than I need in the car.
