wheres the leak
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:14:53 PM »
Have had a substantial coolant loss, noticed green fluid on the block in the vicinity of heater hose/black plastic pipe under the intake. I pulled the intake upper & lower and all the hoses seem fine with no cracks or loose fasteners. Any suggestions? pattern of fluid seems to be in middle of block. Did replace thermostat recently with hotter version but can't see how that wd do this. Thanks.

Assuming that all of your hoses are, in fact, good...and the plastic pipe doesn't have any unseen cracks in it...where you're describing the leak is right where M42 heads tend to crack. Has the car been significantly overheated? Have you noticed any loss in power and/or white smoke/sweet smelling exhaust? Is the car running hot or did you just notice the leak? Unless your thermostat housing or water pump is leaking and the fan is blowing the coolant back under the intake I am not sure what else it could be.

Thanks, it was the black plastic pipe, cracked inside the engine block so did not find initially. Plus the u shaped aluminum pipe between the 4way connectors was pitted at connection and seeping. Replaced all hoses and its like a desert under the car finally.

Can't delete it in CA.  Plus it might be helping with economy.

I deleted mine when I was in CA.  It's not like the smog tech knows to look for all that junk...
