M42 Race engines

The E30 racing series over here in Victoria, Australia is based on 325i cars yet regs are being written up now to allow for m42 engines to be used. Just wondering what you guys use on the track?
the 2.5 M20 cars are allowed a chip, exhaust, mild port and polish and pretty much free suspension mods but stock callipers. Do any of the guys here have a M42 that laps similar to 325s like this? If so what have you done to the engine?
On the list for possible inclusion to the regs are:
Quad throttles yet still using the factory MAF
exhaust system of any choice
port and polish
prehaps raised compression ratio???
Chip
In your opinions what power would this be looking at?
cheers,
cam

Have them include a Maf conversion if possible which would require a piggyback computer.
I have read that the M42 is just not competative with the M20, sad reality but no torque to get off the corners.

Link to NASA Series rules for Spec E30 class. Main deal is weight - 150# less for a 318is. They do better on the tight twisty courses and take a beating on ones with a long straightaway.

I am a big fan of spec series. Formula Ford is an all time favorite. You're competing on chassis tuning skills and driver ability.

M42 is a momentum car. Getting everything you said will help. On the track, my stock M42 kept up with an M20 and an M30. The only cars that could pass me were 2 E46s with sick suspension setup and of course...new powerful engines. If driven well, I'm sure it can hold it's own in a race.

thanks for the info guys. With a bit of luck the regs will be favourable for the M42 engine and they will give the 2.5s a good run for their money. The M42 cars will have a lower min weight. Below is a link to the series with some info on the current regs.

As long as you are allowed a much lower minimum weight than they are, you should be quite competetive with the listed mods.
Schrick cams would be nice too.
If your car must weigh the same as the M20 cars, you're screwed...

The iS car will definitely be lighter yet down on power, the question is how much down on power they can be whilst still maintaining a competitive series.
