fast blinker problem
« on: January 17, 2011, 03:37:22 AM »
my e30 has developed the annoying "turbo blinker." typically this occurs when one bulb is going out. I replaced both front and rear bulbs and the problem persists. My next step will be removing the front bumper to check for a pinched or damaged wire. Any thoughts or suggestions? It is my right turn signal that is having this problem.

try to clean the contact areas for the bulbs. When my front bulb went out, it still blinked because it had 2 elements, but was on the turbo mode too, even with the new bulb.

Here's my $0.02...I had a loose cover on my rear bulbs.  You know how the rear cover plate with the bulbs in it?  Well that round connector that clips into the turn signal harness was a little loose.  Some dielectric grease helped a little, but I think I'll be in there to crimp them back together.  It only happens when it's very cold or very wet.

Took me forever to track it down.  I put the blinker on and then twisted the release knob until the fast blinking went away.

Alternatively, it can be dirty connectors/internally cracked or chafed wire/the wrong wattage bulb.  Believe it or not, the wattage can effect the blink rate.  But I'm thinking the above solution is where your trouble is.

ok guys I figured it out and wanted to share my findings. the front bumper blinker harness was loose. I cleaned the connector and noticed that the 2 clips were loose so I snapped them back. These are the clips on the wiring end of the connector that houses the 3 wires.
