Seat heat, head's up display, cruise control
« on: January 14, 2011, 03:20:01 PM »
I recently checked a 318ci and i noticed some parts are "missing" comparing my 86 eta.
Fog lights, fog light switch
"head's up" display
seat heat and switches.
Cruise control

Can I build them in? Are the wires came with the car or I have deal with that too?

Fogs should have been pre-wired.  I'm not sure about the HUD.  The seat heaters require a bit of work...you'll need the heater panels, the wiring harness and the center console, though you could mod that to add the heater switches.

The cruise is also not impossible.  Grab an entire system from an older e30.  Replace the cruise actuator cable with one from an early e36.  Run the power cables to the brake light.  Done.  It's all on here somewhere.  I can help with parts if you need some.

Hi Dave. I'm here only 2 days, but I see you are the guardian angel of this forum. lol

Thanks for the information. I really thinking to jump into that convertible. Nice body, just a little rust above the right tail light. When I saw that rust I knew I really looking an E30 and not something else. :)

The interior is a boring gray plush, but in good cond.  Undercoating excellent. Too good to be true. i did not see any drips under the car on the snow.  Neither oil or coolant.Engine block clean. Not clean-clean, just not oily. Idle was constant, and the temp was slightly below half way on the gauge.
I'm not sure about the suspension, but the brakes are trashed. The rear ones are metal grinders and they are stuck.
She has 148k.
My major concern was the fog light's wiring. They are very handy here in New England. To make the rest working will be just the frosting on the cake.
I'm sure i will ask you for help.
Frist thing I have to negotiate the price.

Thanks
Steve.

No problem, I'm here to help.  Not a guardian angel, more an M42 geek.  Even if someone totally pulled the wire, it's an easy run.  I'd recommend 14 gauge minimum.

Thank you man. I have to buy it first.
It was interesting to drive her. Sounds like a toy car after the M20 engine. No offense. :)
Same body but definitely different world.

None taken.  It's a toy that gets about 33% better mileage...and no valves to adjust, no belts to break and about 100 pounds less weight behind the front bumper.

I have an M20 e30 myself, what's the fun in just one?

I like the M42.
I thinking to keep my crashed eta too. 25 years old, so I don't have to worry about emission anymore. But she needs serious front job. Plus the drive shaft support, plus staring rack, plus... :)
