Hey, I was wondering about the possibility to do a diesel Swap by importing some parts obviously.... anyone have any Info on this.... previous threads? Etc???

Im thinking a turbo diesel would be sick...

Can't see why it wouldn't work. The motor is very similar to the M42...but imagine the torque and the fuel mileage! You'd have to get creative on the exhaust, I'll bet. And a low mileage M43 won't be easy to find. Spare parts and a mechanic for the common rail system might be hard to find as well. You might have to take it to a Dodge truck shop!

Check with some of the ricer shops in your area; maybe they could grab a complete front clip from somewhere? I'm not sure if BMW sold diesels in Japan though.

I'd be worried about good old US #2 diesel, with our higher sulfur content. Remember what sulfur in gasoline did to the M70 V8s?

What BMW Diesel Engines would work then if those are so difficult to come across?

Thats pretty bitchin, I noticed the transmission needed as well. They are all trying to make my day hard, it seems like the m21 are much more prevalent

IIRC the bolt pattern between our transmission (in my E36 318is) is same with M47 one, but the M47 engine is inclined differently since engine inclination is differently.

so our trasmission *should* fit, but it would sit inclined with all the problems this could give.

don't trust me, double check this.

The M41 would be the ticket, they both use the S5D Getrag 250 manual from early through late production (92-98 at least):
Euro diagram
USA diagram

Unfortunately, it makes only 90hp and 140lb-ft...though that's virtually off-idle at 2k RPM.

Looks like nuvola is right about the M47...gearbox is the ZF GS5 or GS6, same as the six-cylinders. Just be sure you get the transmission too, and fab some brackets.

The thing about diesels ais althought they only ahve the 90HP and 140 ft lbs with a chip you can 40+ HP and I plan to turbo the shit out of what ever diesel I get my hands on.

The later motors are far more powerful. The M41 is an SOHC IIRC. I'll bet you'd get great fuel mileage in a light e30.

so your suggesting that it has the same as the m50 or s50 transmissions that just need the front driveshaft?

Im really starting to like the idea of rocking a diesel, great gas mileage, and I could hop it up a little bit too. not sure how I'd deal with smog though. how much do those engines fetch for? do you think it would be plug and play?
