Shifter question
« on: December 07, 2010, 11:18:52 PM »
The shifter bushing is set in a rod that is connected at one end to the transmission and the other end to the chassis. Does anyone have any idea why bmw did this instead of just having the bushing attached to the chassis right at the shifter hole lip?

I have a short throw shifter in the car and its not short enough plus you have to be a tank to move it. I was wondering if i could move the bushing up and attach it to the chassis so that i can extend the bottom part of the shifter below the bushing as much as possible without hitting the drive shaft. Hopefully theres no adverse effect to doing this. I will then have to extend to top part of the shifter as well so its beside the wheel (dtm style i guess) to get the mechanical advantage back to normal.

Will this work. Been done so i can take a look. Or is my car going to catch fire or something out of the ordinary.
