Finally going to put it up for sale. We just bought a house and I need a truck to haul things with, 265K, 3k on tires, new front brakes, comes with 4.27 lsd  (small case, uninstalled) + 2 quarts mobile syn diff fluid, and trailing arm, subframe, and diff mount bushings. Assorted other gaskets, thermostat and maybe some other parts.

A/C works (recharged with FR-12), heat works, keyless entry, and Dinan 7100 Rpm chip.

Heater plate delete, led interior lights, eclipse motorized dvd player, boston amp and 10" subwoofer.

Clutch is getting close, but does not slip under any conditions, and probably has ~10k left. Needs cv shaft, and possibly u-joint. No parking brake, hardware was missing from rear axle when I bought it. Abs sensors not working. 4.10 open diff is whining, may be low on fluid, may be dead.

I have loved this car, but do not have the time or budget (read: skills) to put the mechanical fixes it needs in a timely fashion, at least not with a house to work on.

The car does have a fairly large amount of touch up spray paint, it would need some body work and paint to be a garage queen, but looks ok as a driver.

Asking $2000 or best.

Good luck with the sale, sorry to see you cutting the old gal loose.  I understand your frustration though.  These cars do need a lot of attention every now and then.

Thank Dave. I'm more than willing to do the work, just running out of garage space and the project list for the house is pretty intimidating at this point. I don't want her to get the forgotten project treatment.

Just to be clear, the car runs and drives (daily) but I wanted to list everything that I had planned to replace.

Any rust?

What major maintenance has been done?  Timing chain?  Water pump?

Any leaks?

Minor rust along the bottom, will need attention to keep it from spreading. Timing chain has ~20k on it, has new brakes (rotors and pads front, pads on rear) Tires are goodyear cheapy ones, roughly 5k on them, head was replaced 10k miles ago, ac recharge last summer (FR-12), exhaust redone with universal cat, uni muffler less than 1k miles, heater plate delete, cleaned intake and tb at the same time, put in dinan chip last summer.

Bottom line is there is not enough room to garage it, and my time and budget to continue working on it are very limited. I picked up a ranger to haul crap to and from our new house, and that has unfortunately left the bimmer with less love than I want to give her. As noted, comes with subframe and trailing arm bushings, 4.27 lsd (small case) and new diff mount + other assorted parts that I ordered over the years. I do have the centercaps for all four wheels as well.

Currently no one has put a firm offer on it, but I have 2 people mulling it over. A good home might make the price a little more flexible as well.

I tried to take pictures of all the sad spots. Gallery is as brutal as they come.

Hmm.....I am interested but I'm 400 miles away

I have a perfect home for it....right beside a 135i and 325xi - both alpine white :D

It would be a haul for sure, but if the price was lower it may be worth it to me.  PM me your best price.  Thanks!

bump with complete new radiator and hoses. Just put 110 miles on it with zero issue.

I will keep the car for sale, and continue the work on it, but the price will have to increase reflecting money outset.

It is suprising how much more an e30 will sell for in wisconsin compared to california. I just picked up a e30 318i for 1500 that had some real fun body work (sarcasm) but I bet that in the lower states it would have went for maybe 800. But it is what it is.

Ow, my pride.

I just spent more than $1000 on the car, in ways that just about any member of this forum would be able to justify.

This car comes pre-"fun bodywork", which is almost assuredly a rare option these days.

Not many e30's in WI, salt is murder.

And you won't get tunes like betty has for $800 anywhere.

Edit: I wouldn't be too upset about paying $1500 for a 318i, and I am not hurt that I paid $3k for mine, and have at least $7k tied up in it. It's hands down the single most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, and in 5 years of "spirited" driving, left me stuck twice, for a fuel pump and a belt. I was up and running the same day on both accounts.

It sounds like you haven't found the joy of your new acquisition yet. When you do, you'll be happy to put another $1500 into it. For example, I just passed up a 100k 88 325i for $800 (here in Southern WI), and didn't think twice about it. The only thing I would have done with it would be to rip out the 6 pot and put an m42 in it. These motors are addictions only surpassed by the S14, and the reason we all don't drive M3's is because $1500 won't get you anywhere with them, where an m42 car can be nearly re-manufactured for that money.

I'm not thinking your price is all that crazy.  I paid almost $1k for my sedan, coupes are always worth more.  Given the maintenance that you've given it, it's a good deal.  The body really doesn't look that bad at all.  To be completely honest, I did attempt reasoning with the wife...but that was a massive fail:

Me: I found the perfect car for you, hon!
Her: But it's white and I don't like sitting so low to the ground.  Is it an automatic?

It's a shame too, I have all the goodies that car needs...a perfect dash, glove compartment, black sport seats, etc.  She doesn't know what she's missing!  She has seen me struggling with the snow this year, I suppose that had something to do with it.  Otherwise I'd have been driving it home to Pittsburgh already.  Working A/C is a rarity in the e30 world regardless!  Add in the basketweaves and a decent shell, you're in the ballpark AFAIC.  Can you hit me with some more details of that upgrade?  I was planning on ditching the A/C entirely, but if you have a better idea I might fix it instead.

I don't entirely agree with your take on the M20s as I really like my 325i too...it's a different type of feel, much more relaxed than the revvy M42.  I plan on keeping them both for a while.  I even ran an auto 325e for a while, just to round out the e30 experience, I suppose.

They're all fun, cheap & reliable.  What else could anyone possibly want?

I think you read me wrong, I was merely stating they are less expensive further south (probably because of weather conditions) Trust me I love the thing (mine) and yours is nice too, I love the car, It's awesome. And yes, I have about 500 in it so far. After a month maybe. Good luck with sale, she is a beauty

I noted a wide variety of prices across the country too.  Unfortunately, most of the places I look are pretty costly.  Craig's List ads in rural PA & NY are usually much more reasonable but rust is the big deal killer.   WV is cheap but the cars are very rare.  I've been looking 'round NC and the Orlando area too without much luck.  The car bodies are in much better shape, but paint & interiors are always shot.
