I don't know if the m20 motor mounts fit but I do believe that the e28 motor mounts fit the m42. I would not know about the tranny though.

Cheers

I can take a look, I have a few M20 biscuits floating around.  I thought that M20 mounts were the same on the e28 and e30 and would physically fit.  The larger M42 mounts are very expensive...I suspect because they're hydraulically damped units.

It seems to me that you'd only need to replace the passenger side mount.  I'd be tempted to buy a used mount to replace a bad one - they do last a long time.  I am sure that any solid mount would transmit more vibration into the car.

We used the E28/24 motor mounts off ebay. A pair of 320i mounts for the transmission which i had several on hand. I'm pretty sure they are marked L and R. If so they need to be installed reverse to fit properly. Once you lower the motor you'll see if it's gonna line up correctly.

Are those mounts a direct fit? How's the vibration comparing to original ones?

yes direct fit

NVH is barely more than stock. Actually seemed less on our install since the factory mounts were probably shot.

I used M30 motor mounts for 5 or 6 years. You have to hack off some little metal alignment tabs, but that's it. When I finally decided to spend the money on M42 mounts, I was glad that I did. The M30 mounts transmit a shit load of vibration & noise into the car. The M42 is a rough running motor, and the softer hydraulic mounts were used for a reason. It is unfortunate that they are so damn expensive though.
