Shorting shocks on E30 318is
« on: October 12, 2010, 12:45:20 PM »
I have standard E30 318is suspension, and I want to install 60/40 mm (2,4/1,6 inch) springs.
I read that I need to install shortened (sport) shocks for that kind of lovering, but can I cut (machined) my standard shocks and make them shorter for that application?
Would that work ok, did anybody done that?

thanks

I would recomend geting a set of bilstein b8's for her lad. Had them with fk 60/40 springs in my old 316i and she handled great

Thanks, but this is setup "on budget", until I buy something better, I just feel the urge to go lower :D

I wouldn't drop the car very far...lower oil pans are expensive.  Maybe invest in a skid plate?

Dont lower a e30 on a budget. You will bust the sump and cost more money in the long run. Get coilovers or bilstein's socks etc. I lowered my old 316i on standard shocks and smash the sump
