my ac compressor and tension pulley does not line up with the pulley on the crank. The crank stick out further then the compressor. I just bought the car and the body is a 1992 but i dont know what year the engine is. I think someone pieced this one together with whatever they could find. From my research there are 2 of the brackets that mount it up but i need someone to measure how far theirs sticks out off the timing cover and tell me what engine year they have.

Yours is a serpentine belt, right? Mine are v-belts so I can't help much. You checked the bolt on the crank, right? It has to really get torqued on there, like to 200ft-lb or so. If it's loose, maybe the crank wheel is out of line? There have been some instances of broken woodruff keys on the crank nose too.

The A/C compressor on my car cannot be adjusted longitudinally, but I did note that the stamped bracket is a bit twisted - I haven't straightened it out yet but I'll post some pics when I do.

You're engine seems to be using the correct crank pulley. Being a 92, it has a different vibration damper, p/s & a/c pulley in front of it compared with say my engine which is a 93. However the A/C compressor mounting bracket is the same one for vehicles up to 03/1994. Yes the car is a 92 but i dont know what year the motor is. i need to know how far the the bracket stand off the timing cover on motors after 3/1994

Right, I've been checking out RealOEM and have found that the A/C bracket used on all E36 vehicles whether it be an M42 or M44 in a 318is is the same part number. But I believe there are 2x different branded compressors. (One is a Denso - earlier, the other is Seiko - later).

Can you post a picture of this. Check how the A/C bracket is mounted on the side of the block. You might possibly have the wrong crankshaft pulley. Not the vibration damper itself but the accessory drive belt pulley that bolts in front of it. There are I believe 3 different variations of this system.

If anyone has a 1995 bracket they are willing to sell i will buy it
