Coil on Plug Kit $145
« on: August 13, 2010, 02:59:10 PM »

By the way if anyone is interested the hardware part#'s from mcmaster car:

93805A333
94205A250
90965A170
95211A160
94639A503
91287A137

ALL New kits have been sold. Thanks everyone!

Hey guys I decided to make myself a coil on plug conversion kit and ordered enough material to make a few more for you guys. This is a full kit with a 6061aluminum coil bracket, guality MCMASTER-CARR stainless steel hardware, and coils.

$145 gets you the whole setup to your door. lower 48 shipping is included. Like I said, I don't plan on making anymore of these just passing on a few kits to you guys at a low price. This price barely covers material/machining, shipping, and paypal fees.

Thanks!

Please forgive my ignorance: What's the advantage(s) of coil on plugs?

Thanks, Yeti

The biggest advantage is it eliminates the need for spark plug wires and as the names suggests places the coils directly on top of the spark plugs. I am not sure if you have ever replaced the wires on an m42 but the wires alone are ~$130. So, if you need a tune up you might as well switch over to coil on plugs like the m42's big brothers m50, m52, and s52...etc..

The other advantage is that it cleans up your engine bay significantly. Allowing room for other things like F/I... Or simply a clean modern look.

I take paypal payment. Basically the coils are the only item on this kit that could fail and I don't seem to hear of any problems from anyone of coils ever failing. The hardware is stainless steel so rusting will not be an issue. Let me know if you are interested in a kit and I will ship out on monday. I have been running these coils and bracket in my car for a few thousand miles or so with no issues. Actually it was a bit more perky after the swap, however, my wires were quite old.

They are aftermarket coils. There wasn't an "OEM" coil for the m42 that fit on the plugs.

I believe that the factory coils were from M52's and S52's. Not 100% sure though...

Glad to hear, thanks for posting the results! My m42 perked up quite a bit after the conversion as well. I aslso noticed a much smoother engine throughout the entire rpm range.
