What Have I Done.

My 1991 318is red with only 110k decided to let a tire go at the top of a left hander. Lost the car and hit a tree head on. I can not save the body both front supports are done. I have a mint 1990 325is body that is stripped down except for the electrical. Can I transplant my drivetrain into this body and use the 325is harness or would i need to transfer all of that as well. Will the motor mounts lineup or am i in to deep already.

Wow, srry to hear.

Maybe KidneyBoy can chime in as he has an M42 in an 325is body.

If your motor isn't damaged, you can transplant it into the 325iS chassis. The wiring harness and a few other bits from the m42 (new radiator will be needed, you will have to remove the oil cooler from the 325iS, you will obviously need the coil pack assembly from the m42 etc)will be needed to complete the mission.
Subframes are the same with the cars as well and the fact that the 325iS is a '90 should be in your favor as well. Sorry to hear of the mishap - glad to hear you have a shell to pluck everything into and get back up and running!

On other forums folks talk about scraping 50 pounds of tar like stuff from the trunk of 6 cyl. cars. Also the need to put battery in the rear. It's part of the balance. Maybe you'll get the bigger OBC in the deal. This shouldn't be a  problem as you have both cars and both electrical systems. Just need  a little "sorting out"

Glad your okay too, I recently lost mine aswell. What e9nine said, everything will fit right in except you need the harness(and computer), radiator and coil pack from the M42, and removing the "trunk tar" would be best too. The transmission and differential will fit right in aswell.

Hey guys thanks forthe reply. Ya the donor car is bare bones. I bough the shell about a year ago and did a complete restoration on it but never did anything with it. It sat in a storage unit since. I have been waiting for something, and then this is good timing I guess. I need to spray the shell with color and thats it. all metal work has been done. i have the glass out of it and it sits on a dolly. No subframe no dif or housing not even carpet or seats. all of the wiring is still there, thanks God. It is good to hear about the wiring. That was my only concern. I will get my pics together and have them posted so you can see what  got into. I do appreciate the concern and support. If anybody is in the Indianapolis area and want to see this, let me know. also for parts there is a dismantler here that has more e30 parts than anybody I am aware of. They have at least 10 to 15 complete m42's sitting inside a shed with ECU's for $450-$600. If you can think of it, other than m3 parts, they seem to have it. Hope this helps someone.
