So I'm on my 3rd e30 318.. I picked this one up at a junk yard about 3 years ago for 500 bucks... and it actually ran and has been up until about 4 weeks ago. I'm no expert but I'm assuming I broke a few springs in the head. I found metal shavings in two of the intake ports under the valves. I pulled the engine out last week and I'm in the process of a complete rebuild. So I'm looking for ideas of what to do for the m42 rebuild. I also have plans to spray the car within the next couple months.. the 20 year old one stage paint is wearing kind of thin. So here it is.

So obviously she needs some work.. right now I'm running around in a red e36 318ti. I gotta say, my e30 is a lot more fun so the sooner I get this running the better. I'm hoping its only off the road for 6 months or a year.. tops. The only reason I think it will take that long is money.. cuz I don't have much. So let me know what you guys think

The car looks really worn, there will be much work and a long way to go.
But you can make every E30 pretty again, with patience, time, and finally money, as you said.

I must admit its always damn cool to see people from all over the world which are working hard to get their E30's running again, and also in nice shape.

I hope you will make your way with that new white E30.
I wish you good luck and alot of fun, keep the pictures comming. :)

So i finally got the motor running last night. i dont have the coolant system hooked up and i need a new thermostat housing but once i finally got the coil wires in the right order (my own mistake... should have labeled them when i pulled everything apart) she started right up. A little loud.. gotta let the lifters adjust but she started right up. i just wanted to thank everyone on here for all the help. all the minor modifications i made to the engine were from ideas i got from people on this forum. theres so much info on here, its freakin awesome. i still have a long way to go with the car. i have some suspension goodies ill install once i have the car on the road. its easier to work on at my dads shop.. i can use a lift. i need to replace 2 doors and maybe ill get around to painting it. fortunately the two doors i have for it are the same color. i have some pics of the motor from a few nights ago on my phone so theyre not the best looking but ill try uploading them tomorrow. thanks again for all the help... i cant wait to finally take her for a ride.:D
