I am in the process of building up a stroker M42. I have used the search function to no avail.. can anyone point me to a thread with the piston / crankshaft machining requirements? I have the ability of mocking it all up and doing it from scratch but why re-invent the wheel?

Interesting.. from the looks of the threads around here it seemed as if everyone and their cousin has done this... Looks like I am reinventing the wheel!

I think the ticket is the Euro diesel M47 crank with M20/M50 135mm rods and the S52 pistnos. They are pricey though you can get well over 2.0 litres. Not sure about the M44 crank - you'd also need to machine the snout to take the crank angle sensor.

It's much cheaper your way though. Good M47 cranks are usually around $1k.

This is a quick synopsis:

The real ticket is the M47 crank with S52 piston shaved .71mm but using a 138mm rod. You might have to dish the piston depending on what compression you're looking for but it should put you around 11:1 without. This will give you 2068cc.

Or you can go S50 piston with same 138mm rod and shave off 2.65mm and dish it to whatever compression you'd like. This will give you 2045cc.

Crank nose needs to be turned down to fit crank gear and a second key needs to be cut. You can then go one step further and have the crank lightened as I did. The stock crank is 30lbs and the M47 crank is 35lbs.

IIRC they are actually cheaper from the dealer for some reason. Last time I checked they were around $800 new.

the m44 rotating assembly drops right in, Ive been running my m42 with m44 internals for over 2 years (3 years in november)

Thanks everyone... I bought 11:1 JE S52 pistons. Using the wristpin as a locating tool the S52 piston is already 1mm shorter than the OEM M42 piston. I have decided to weld and offset grind the M42 crankshaft to M44 stroke length...
