M3 suspension compatibility
« on: June 27, 2010, 02:25:39 AM »
Hey I was wondering if anyone knows how much of the E36 M3 suspension is compatible with the E36 318i chassis... Specifically the struts/springs and sway bar. Thanks!

All of it. They were built on the same chassis. However, some of the suspension components may require m3 mounts, perches, etc.

I'm fairly certain you could turn your car into an m3.  Everything should bolt onto your chassis. Someone with an e36 might know exactly what is required for certain component switches though.

It is all compatible with no modification required, except maybe the sway. I did this back in '04 but I didn't change the sway.

So far the only issue I've found is that some later M3 wheels have different offset.  I ran into issues with my tires rubbing when I tried to run 245's on the back.

why swap m3 suspension into your 318, do ground contorl coil conversin and you will be much happier! i did the same as you and then did the ground control and have never looked back.
