I got out of SCCA Solo 2 many years ago for a number of reasons:
1) Driving to wait time ratio. It is just plain stupid to wait around all day for around 5 minutes TOTAL of driving time.
2) Cost. In order to make a car competitive where I was (SF Bay) you needed to spend around $20k in modifications for the street prepped classes. I found that my $11k sport bike went light years faster with no modifications, and I got to spend 20 minutes at a time at full tilt on a full on track multiple times in a day.
3) As is the purpose of this thread, the classes were 15 kinds of stupid. So you are going to tell me that an E30 325is should run in the same class as an E36 328is? Yeah sure. Good luck with that. Lost cause from the start.
Some examples of how dumb this is that I just got from the SCCA website:
- ASP- Both the 944 (16v) and 944 Turbo and the Carerra 2 and 4 as well as all of the 911 turbos?
- DSP- E30 and E36 328 (um, correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no 328 version of the E30), 3 series (16v, NOC) that I'm assuming could only be the 318, E46 328 and 330?

- FSP- 318i (NOC), VW 8v and 16v A2 chassis.
So these idiots are saying that an E30 318is should be in the same class as an E46 330i??? When I started autocrossing, it was in a 16v 1.8l GTI. It was light years faster than an 8v A2 machine but light years SLOWER than a 2.0l 16v A2 GTI. It is making me mad to just to do the research again. What a bunch of pretentious morons.
This is why motorsport is such a clusterfarfugnuven in the States; idiots like the SCCA and AMA make up the most ignorant, un-enthusiast sets of rules that are ridiculously out of touch with reality.
When I get home, if I want to autocross it will be with other organizations than those clowns.
I wish you a lot of luck in getting the class changed, but there are MANY more wholesale changes that need to be made prior to capturing my interest again. And a good friend of mine is a nationally competitive driver in Street Mod I think and does very well in KS or wherever nationals are every year in a Miata that probably has over $60k invested in it. Just plain stupid for autocross.
