Sooo about 40k ago I replaced the entire timing chain assy.. Did the water pump, chain, sprockets, pulleys, the whole 9 yards.. When I reinstalled the guide rails, I felt iffy about one thing and one thing only.. this damn hollow threaded thing that just seemed to thread in and sit in there with no other fastening.. I put it back in the same way it came out, but now, about 6 months ago when I parked the car, a hole had appeared in my upper timing chain cover, and oil was spraying out everywhere...
This was the culprit
http://www.flickr.com/photos/50383493@N04/4685303872/It sits at the top part of the driver side longer chain guide rail.. Did I miss a bolt that was supposed to go through it er?
Mostly I'd like to know if its essential and needs to go back in.. if so, it looks like there's a fillister head bolt that may go through it, that would make sense to fasten it down.. either way I'll need to get a new one, or not put it back in... suggestions? comments?
