No check engine light, no crank...please help
« on: May 22, 2010, 12:27:27 PM »
So i recently did an engine swap, i finish putting all the wiring harness back. I try turning the key but no check engine light or crank. The car is getting 12v to the system but somehow it is not getting power to the DME. I've checked the relays...what else should i look for? Thanks everyone.

There is a pair of positive wires from the battery to the front distribution block.  Check that smaller wire for continuity.  It powers the DME.  Some cars have an inline fusible link in that wire.  It pops when you try jump starting other cars too.

You mean the engine is turning over but not starting, right?  Check for spark too, let us know.

the engine is not cranking nor do i hear the solenoid clicking...my next step would be to check voltage at starter and maybe take it out and bench test it. Would a failed ignition switch prevent the engine from cranking?

Got the engine to run today. The starter housing wasn't making ground, so i ran a ground wire from starter to chassis. As for the check engine light not turning on, i removed the old relay and plug it back. It came back on...odd...because i had already tried that. Thank you DesktopDave for providing me with info.

Add the ground strap to the engine mount and one more. MM
